天空 tiān kōng |
天气 tiān qì | |
It is the original form of 颠, meaning “above the head”. What is above the head is the sky, therefore it is loaned to indicate “sky” and “the heavens”. In bronze inscriptions, the head was round-shaped, while in oracle bone inscription, the head was marked with a square or a horizontal plane for the sake of inscribing convenience. |
