In oracle bone inscriptions, it was composed of 米(rice) as the upper part and rice basket as the lower part. In bronze inscriptions, a flag was added on the upper part to indicate the rice being beaten in the wind and hand was added to husk the rice. In small seal characters, it evolved to become a pictophonetic character. |
